City of Virginia Beach News: Cooling Assistance Available to Eligible Citizens

The Virginia Beach Department of Human Services has a Cooling Assistance Program which offers various services to eligible citizens. Eligible citizens include those 60 years or older, individuals with disabilities, and households with children under 6 years old with financial need. Depending on an individual's need, the Department of Human Services can:
Purchase, replace and install window air conditioners.
Arrange for central air conditioning or air conditioning units to be repaired.
Pay electric bills so cooling equipment can be operated.
Pay security deposit so cooling equipment can be operated.
Provide portable fans.
Purchase and/or install ceiling, attic or whole house fans.
Arrange for ceiling, attic or whole house fans to be repaired.
Citizens who have working cooling equipment in their homes (fans, window air conditioning units, central air conditioning units) are not eligible to receive additional cooling equipment. However, they may still be eligible for financial assistance with their electric bill.
